Hi, I’m Ellen!
I’m Ellen, a DONA-certified postpartum doula, a mother of four, and an Irish native who has called New York home for the past 18 years. When I had my first babies, my mother traveled from Ireland and stayed with me for six weeks. She cared for me in the most intuitive, gentle way, long before I knew what a postpartum doula was. Her presence showed me how powerful it is to feel truly supported, and it planted the seed for this work.
Through my own postpartum journeys, I came to understand how beautiful, emotional, and transformative those early weeks can be, and how challenging it can sometimes feel to find a village or built-in community to lean on. That realization inspired me to become a postpartum doula and to name my business Solas, the Gaelic word for light, symbolizing the warmth and reassurance I hope to bring into each family’s home.
My goal is to offer calm, compassionate support that helps families ease into parenthood with confidence. I’m here so you can focus on bonding, resting, and enjoying your baby.
Outside of supporting new families, I love spending time with my husband and our four children, traveling together, practicing Pilates, and enjoying a really good meal.
